The English Teacher will be responsible for delivering high-quality, personalised English education to students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). The role aims to ensure that all students, regardless of their starting point, are supported to develop confidence in communication, reading, writing, speaking and listening, functional literacy and, where appropriate, formal English qualifications at GCSE or Functional Skills level.

• Plan, deliver and evaluate high-quality, engaging and differentiated English lessons that meet the diverse needs of students with SEND.
• Adapt the English curriculum to ensure it is accessible, relevant and ambitious for all students, including those working significantly below age-related expectations.
• Deliver functional literacy and life-skills-based English alongside formal accreditation where appropriate, including GCSE English Language and Functional Skills English.
• Use a range of multi-sensory, practical and responsive teaching strategies to secure progress.
• Break down learning into small, achievable steps and celebrate progress in all its forms.
• Create a safe, structured and stimulating learning environment that promotes positive behaviour and emotional regulation.

• Assess, monitor and record student progress using formative and summative assessment methods appropriate to a SEND setting.
• Set aspirational yet realistic targets in line with students’ assessed levels.
• Contribute to annual reviews, progress reviews and multi-agency meetings.
• Provide clear and accurate reports to parents/carers and senior leaders on attainment, progress and behaviour.
