SEND English Teacher

Our school supports children aged 11-16 with a variety of special educational needs including, Autism, ADHD, and/or as a result of a combination of factors related to Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs.

The English Teacher will be responsible for delivering high-quality, personalised English education to students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

The role aims to ensure that all students, regardless of their starting point, are supported to develop confidence in communication, reading, writing, speaking and listening, functional literacy and, where appropriate, formal English qualifications at GCSE or Functional Skills level. The post holder will plan and deliver engaging, differentiated and accessible lessons, informed by Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), and will work closely with teaching assistants, therapists and the wider multidisciplinary team to remove barriers to learning.

Through a trauma-informed, inclusive and student-centred approach, the teacher will foster positive relationships, promote emotional regulation and behaviour for learning, and prepare students to make progress and achieve as far as possible. Teaching & Learning

• Plan, deliver and evaluate high-quality, engaging and differentiated English lessons that meet the diverse needs of students with SEND.
• Adapt the English curriculum to ensure it is accessible, relevant and ambitious for all students, including those working significantly below age-related expectations.
• Deliver functional literacy and life-skills-based English alongside formal accreditation where appropriate, including GCSE English Language and Functional Skills English.
• Use a range of multi-sensory, practical and responsive teaching strategies to secure progress.
• Break down learning into small, achievable steps and celebrate progress in all its forms.
• Create a safe, structured and stimulating learning environment that promotes positive behaviour and emotional regulation.
