have a great opportunity available to join Novus, our prison education provider at HMP Hindley, working as an English Teacher. This role is offered on a permanent, part-time basis, working 18.5 hours per week (0.5

Site Information

HMP Hindley is a Prison and Young Offender Institution (YOI) based in Bickershaw near Wigan, Greater Manchester. The resettlement prison has capacity for 600 young adults (18-25 years old) and adult males. The Prison is committed to providing a safe and educational environment where its prisoners can learn new skills to help them on release.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience

To be successful in this role, you will need to:

  • Hold a teaching qualification and where applicable, relevant subject specialist qualification - with a commitment to obtain the outstanding qualification within 12 months
  • Hold a Level 2 qualification in Literacy and Numeracy
  • Have experience creating stimulating, vibrant environments which are conducive to learning and motivational for learners
  • Have experience of achieving quality targets
  • Have experience producing accurate and timely reports
  • Demonstrate effective interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrate an ability to motivate and enthuse learners
  • Have excellent organisational skills to prioritise workload to meet deadlines and targets
  • Demonstrate positive team working
  • Track record of effective teaching in delivering in subject (Desirable)
  • Track record of working effectively with people presenting with challenging behaviour (Desirable)
