We are currently recruiting for an experienced MHE & Warehouse Safety Trainer to join a busy warehouse and manufacturing operation in Wigan.
This is an excellent temp-to-perm opportunity for an experienced MHE trainer who is passionate about workplace safety, operator competence and delivering high-quality practical training.
The RoleAs an MHE & Warehouse Safety Trainer, you will be responsible for planning, delivering and recording effective training and assessments across a range of Material Handling Equipment (MHE) and warehouse activities.
You will work closely with Operations, Warehouse Management, Health & Safety and Engineering teams to ensure employees are trained to the required standard and only competent operators are authorised to use equipment.
The role will involve supporting new starters, experienced operators, refresher training, conversion training and remedial training, as well as conducting workplace observations and reassessments.
Key Responsibilities- Deliver theory and practical MHE training to the required standard.
- Train and assess operators on relevant MHE categories for which you are qualified and authorised.
- Deliver novice, refresher, conversion and remedial training.
- Assess operator competence and provide clear, constructive feedback.
- Maintain accurate training records, certificates and competence matrices.
- Monitor operator performance and identify additional training requirements.
- Conduct workplace observations and reassessments where required.
Support post-incident and near-miss training reviews. - Stop training immediately where unsafe conditions or behaviours are identified.
- Deliver or coordinate training covering wider warehouse activities, including manual handling, loading bays, ramps, steps and other site-specific tasks.
- Promote safe vehicle and pedestrian segregation and high standards of workplace transport safety.
- Ensure training complies with company procedures, risk assessments, manufacturer instructions and relevant UK health & safety requirements.
- Work with management and Health & Safety teams to identify and address training and competence gaps.

Important:
Candidates will only be required to train or assess equipment and tasks for which they hold the appropriate competence, qualifications and company authorisation.
We are looking for a confident and experienced MHE Trainer who can demonstrate:
- Current MHE instructor/trainer qualifications relevant to the equipment being trained.
- Strong practical MHE operating experience within a warehouse, manufacturing or logistics environment.
- Experience delivering practical training and assessing operator competence.
- Good knowledge of workplace transport safety and MHE operating procedures.
- Knowledge of PUWER and relevant HSE guidance, including HSE L117 where applicable.
- Experience conducting pre-use checks, safe load handling and manoeuvring.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to train people with different levels of experience and learning needs.
- Strong attention to detail and accurate record-keeping skills.
- Confidence to challenge unsafe behaviour and stop unsafe activities.
- A professional, patient and fair approach to training and assessment.
- Flexibility to work across rotational shifts.
- RTITB, ITSSAR, AITT or NPORS instructor/trainer qualification.
- Level 3 Award in Education and Training or equivalent.
- Manual Handling Trainer qualification.
- Relevant ladder/steps or task-specific training qualifications.
- Experience training across multiple MHE categories.
- Experience working within busy warehouse environments with mixed vehicle and pedestrian traffic.
- Experience maintaining training matrices and compliance records.
