Principal Geotechnical Engineer

Wigan

£50,000 - £60,000

An established multidisciplinary ground engineering consultancy is seeking a Principal Geotechnical Engineer to join their growing team in Wigan. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced geotechnical professional to take a leading role in the delivery of complex infrastructure and development projects while helping to mentor and develop junior staff within a collaborative environment.

The successful candidate will play a key role in managing technically challenging projects from tender stage through to completion, overseeing site investigations, geotechnical design, client liaison and project delivery. The company offers clear progression opportunities into senior leadership alongside a strong pipeline of work across commercial, residential, industrial and infrastructure sectors.

The Role

Leading and managing geotechnical projects across the UK
Designing and overseeing ground investigations
Producing and reviewing factual and interpretative geotechnical reports
Carrying out geotechnical design including foundations, retaining walls, slope stability and earthworks
Managing project budgets, resources and programme delivery
Providing technical leadership and mentoring junior engineers
Supporting business development, fee proposals and client relationships
Liaising with contractors, regulators and multidisciplinary teams
Ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time and to a high technical standard

Requirements

Degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Engineering Geology or a related discipline
Chartered status or working towards Chartership desirable
Significant experience within a geotechnical consultancy environment
Strong technical reporting and design experience
Experience managing projects and leading teams
Excellent communication and client-facing skills
Knowledge of current geotechnical standards and industry best practice
Full UK driving licence
