Overview
Murphy is recruiting for a [[title]] to work with Energy on the Norwich to Tilbury scheme, as part of the Great Grid partnership (GGP).
Our business supports transmission and distribution projects across four countries, delivering Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) projects and technical solutions within conventional power and energy transition markets.
Responsibilities- Overall responsibility for the engineering function, including design management, QA/QC, and document control, both on and off site.
- Implement and promote the Better Engineered strategic objective within the business unit.
- Lead engagement with internal and external designers and specialist supply chain partners.
- Form project delivery strategies for design engineering.
- Ensure implementation of Group Design Management Policy and procedural requirements.
- Identify technical risks and implement mitigation measures on all projects.
- Ensure external project asset stakeholders’ technical governance/assurance processes are adhered to.
- Drive value engineering and innovation, including design standardisation.
- Influence and review design solutions within expertise area.
- Accountable for integrating operational, SHES, and quality input into design development.
- Promote engineering innovation and GIS/BIM and digital field tool solutions for delivery and handover.
- Manage and pursue performance improvement of engineering capability and function, establishing best practice policies and procedures.
- Take a proactive role in careers and learning & development of engineering staff, including personal development reviews.
- Support technical leadership in bids, procurement teams in accurate scope definition and contractual matters.
- Recruit engineers and design managers to meet business requirements.
- Ensure high quality benchmarks and promote best practice in health, safety and environmental matters.
- Relevant experience in a leadership role within the engineering function of a major UK contractor engaged in rail, highways, utilities, tunnelling, or other heavy civil engineering.
- Strong technical capability and leadership skills, with knowledge of working in BIM.
- Leadership with emotional intelligence, ability to continually improve, develop others and advance.
- Ability to prioritise objectives, meet deadlines and influence while maintaining integrity and trust.
- Experience of technical leadership on major infrastructure projects and programmes.
- Knowledge of project management processes gained through successful contract management experience.
- Good appreciation and understanding of the professional development process for civil engineers.
