You’ve helped turn engineering plans into real places. Now help students understand how it’s done.

Roads, structures and infrastructure begin with technical decisions.

As our Civil Engineering Lecturer, you’ll help students understand the mathematics, science, design and professional judgement behind those decisions. You’ll bring engineering principles to life through industry examples, practical activity and software such as Revit and AutoCAD.

You’ll teach students across Levels 2 to 5. Some will be taking their first steps into civil engineering. Others will be progressing towards higher technical study, university, apprenticeships or professional careers. You’ll meet them at the right level and help them build both technical understanding and the confidence to apply it.

This role is about more than explaining theory. You’ll show students how engineering concepts connect to real structures, construction projects and infrastructure challenges. You’ll help them understand why accuracy matters, how design choices affect delivery and what employers expect from people entering the profession.

You may already be an experienced lecturer. You may instead be a civil engineering or construction professional who has trained, mentored or supported others in the workplace. You don’t need to arrive as a finished teacher. If you bring strong technical knowledge and can help others understand it, we’ll support you to develop your teaching practice and gain the qualification you need.

• Convey civil engineering concepts through mathematics, science, design and professional judgement.

• Teach across Levels 2 to 5, tailoring delivery to learners’ levels and goals.
• Demonstrate how engineering decisions connect to real structures, construction projects and infrastructure challenges.
• Help students understand why accuracy matters and how design choices impact project delivery.
• Support learners in building both technical understanding and practical confidence.
• Collaborate with colleagues to develop teaching practice and pursue required qualifications.

• Strong technical knowledge in civil engineering or a related field.
• Ability to explain complex concepts clearly and engage learners across Levels 2–5.
• Willingness to develop teaching practice and pursue the required teaching qualification.
• Experience with software such as Revit and AutoCAD is beneficial.
