The post holder will:
  • Provide professional, managerial and clinical leadership toNNUstaffinthedeliveryofevidencebasedinfantandfamilycentredcare.
  • Haveresponsibilityforoperationallinemanagementofthe NNU team ensuring the effective use of resources and the development & maintenance of the highest standards of care and efficient service delivery.
  • Provideactiveleadership,actingasamotivatorand communicating effectively with the Neonatal team and wider Multi- professional team.
  • Be a visible presence and point of contact for carers, families,visitorsandstaff,providinghelpandsupportinproblemsolvingand meeting their needs. Be a role model ensuring the dignity, rights andconfidentialityoftheinfants,theirfamiliesandteammembersareprotected and maintained.
  • Work closely withthe Head of Governancefor Maternity and Child Health providing leadership for the implementation and further development of Clinical Governance, risk and quality improvement in the NNU. Thiswill include the development of and implementation of policy and procedureinthe following areas:

    Clinical Governanceandriskmanagement (incorporating clinical risk), family experience, quality and process improvement, clinical effectiveness and Health and Safety.
  • Createapositiveworkingenvironment ontheNORTwhichallowsstaffto show initiative.
  • Toco-ordinatethestaffingof theNORTensuringappropriateskill-mix throughout the 7 day week period, with efficient use of all resources.
  • ToparticipateintherecruitmentandselectionofallstafffortheNORT.
  • Workinpartnershipwithotherserviceprovidersleadingtoeffectivecare pathways for the infants.
  • Tofacilitateandmaintaincommunicationwithinthemultidisciplinaryteam.
  • Ensure that Children’ssafeguardingprocessesandproceduresare followed and that infants in our care are protected from harm.
  • Ensurethatweachieveandmaintain
    100% compliancewithalloursafety checks and procedures
  • Comply with Healthand Safety Policiesandensurethatall  staff,parents and visitors are informed and advised.
  • Maintainacleanandsafeenvironment.
  • Ensurethatallequipmentusedandtechniquesusedbystaffcomplywith the service and Trust Policies.
  • Work collaboratively with the North West Neonatal Operational Delivery Network(NWNODN) toreviewandauditclinical practicesandintroduce changes to clinical care supported by the NWNODN.
  • Represent the NORT at regional NWNODN meetings and working groups.
  • To actively manage the work of the NORT maintaining effective nursing care and adjustingallocationofstaffasneededtoensureawell-balancedskill mixto meetdemand.
  • PromotetheroleoftheNNnurse,developinga NNnursingservicewhichworksin the best interest of the infants and their families.
  • Promoteaneffectivelearningculturesuitedtotheneedsofpreandpost registration students.
  • Identifythetrainingandlearningneedstosupportanddeveloptheexistingnursing and support staff, and support the provision of skills drills for the wider MDT.
  • Co-ordinateandmonitorthecaregivenbyallmembersofstaffinthedepartment, liaise with multi-disciplinary team and outside agencies to ensure continued care delivery, taking appropriate action if care falls below an accepted standard.
  • In conjunction with all staff develop a philosophy for the unit which demonstrates a clearfocusandensureall staff understands theobjectivesoftheNORTand theirrole within the team.
  • Toberesponsiblefortheupdatinganddevelopmentofclinical practicesutilising evidence based practice in conjunction with the Medical team, the Advanced Neonatal Clinical Practitioners and the Practice Development Nurse.
  • Contribute to the development and reviewof clinical guidelines, SOP, Policies and practicesandberesponsibleforsupportingstaffinimplementinginitiativesthrough effective change management.
  • Effective management of staff rosters and sickness, absence andtrainingthrough thee-Roster,planningoffdutyrosteraminimumof 6 weeksinadvancemanaging changes as they occur
  • Maintainavisiblepresenceinthe NORTtoprovideaclearfocusforeffectiveclinical leadership to the nursing and support team
