Hays Education are working in partnership with a welcoming and ambitious secondary school in Wigan to recruit an experienced
Attendance Officer to join their pastoral and administrative team from
September 2026.
This is initially a temporary assignment for the autumn term, with the potential to become a permanent appointment for the right candidate. The successful candidate will play a key role in promoting excellent attendance, supporting student welfare, and ensuring accurate attendance data is maintained across the school.
Your new roleAs Attendance Officer, you will be responsible for monitoring and improving student attendance, working closely with parents, staff, and external agencies to remove barriers to education and support positive outcomes for pupils.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Monitoring daily attendance and punctuality across the school
- Recording and analysing attendance data using the school's management information system
- Identifying attendance concerns and implementing appropriate interventions
- Contacting parents and carers regarding unexplained absences
- Producing attendance reports for senior leaders and pastoral teams
- Managing attendance-related correspondence and documentation
- Supporting Education Welfare processes, including referrals and meetings
- Working collaboratively with safeguarding, pastoral and inclusion teams
- Ensuring compliance with attendance legislation and school policies
- Previous experience working as an Attendance Officer or in a similar attendance-focused role within a school environment
- Experience using school MIS systems such as
SIMS, Arbor, Bromcom or Scholar Pack
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities
- Confidence working with attendance data and reporting systems
- A proactive and resilient approach when dealing with challenging situations
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one through Hays
- Immediate opportunity to secure a September start
