Accountant – Administrative OfficeFull‑time position responsible for preparing, reviewing, and maintaining accurate journal entries to support the organization’s financial reporting. The Accountant ensures transactions comply with GAAP, internal policies, and audit requirements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Prepare, validate, and post recurring and non‑recurring journal entries within monthly deadlines.
- Collaborate with departments to gather needed information for accurate entries.
- Review financial data for inconsistencies, correct errors, and reconcile general ledger accounts.
- Support month‑end and year‑end close processes, ensuring required entries are completed and documented.
- Prepare work papers and maintain organized electronic and paper documentation for all transactions.
- Assist in developing and enhancing journal entry procedures, allocations, and internal controls.
- Provide schedules, documentation, and explanations for internal and external audit requests.
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards, organizational policies, and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in process‑improvement initiatives to streamline workflows and improve efficiency.
- Process, validate, and post cash receipts, coding transactions properly in the accounting system.
- Promote and contribute to MFHS organizational and programmatic goals.
- Backup the Grant and Compliance Accountant and assist with other duties as directed.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field.
- 1–3 years of general ledger experience (non‑profit or government preferred).
- Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, formulas).
- Strong understanding of GAAP and internal control principles.
- Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
- Capacity to manage multiple projects/tasks concurrently without loss of efficiency or accuracy.
