Summary
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval, including award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years), is determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application.
Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending completion of training or licensure may be referred and tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are met. Current VA-employed physicians who met the initial appointment requirements are deemed to have met the basic requirements.
Basic Requirements:
- Citizenship:

Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree from an approved school. - Licensure:
Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in the U.S. or its territories. - Residency Training:
Completion of residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty program leading to eligibility for board certification. Residents enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited programs are eligible as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs) under specific conditions. - Language:
Proficiency in spoken and written English. - Experience:
Qualified to perform duties as a physician, having completed an accredited residency and/or possessing relevant experience. - Preferred Experience:

Duties
- This position offers a sign-on bonus (up to 15% of salary per year for up to four years), EDRP, and relocation expenses. Salary may exceed the maximum if performance metrics are met.
- Conducts comprehensive psychiatric assessments across age groups, considering cognitive and emotional factors.
- Collaborates with multidisciplinary teams for pharmacological and therapeutic interventions.
- Provides interventional psychiatry services, including treatments like TMS and psychosis interventions.
- Participates in patient care planning, including acute and chronic mental health management, and covers inpatient units as needed.
- Engages in on-call duties, including weekends and holidays.
- Evaluates veterans in various settings and participates in behavioral crisis management.
- Maintains effective team relationships, provides oversight for trainees, and may deliver care via virtual platforms.
