The Controller is a key member of the leadership team, responsible for the financial integrity and operational efficiency of the organization. This position oversees accounting, budgeting, grants management, and financial reporting to ensure compliance with federal, state, and private funding requirements, as well as generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). The Controller supports strategic planning by providing timely financial insights and ensuring sustainable fiscal practices.

Key Responsibilities:

• Oversee all accounting operations, including accounts payable, receivable, general ledger, payroll, and fixed assets.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports.
• Lead the annual budgeting process and monitor performance against budget.
• Manage cash flow and forecasting.

Compliance & Audit

• Ensure compliance with 2 CFR Part 200 and other applicable federal/state regulations related to grants and cooperative agreements.
• Coordinate and manage the annual audit and preparation of Form 990.
• Develop and maintain internal controls and financial policies.
• Ensure timely filing of all required financial and tax reports.

Grants & Contracts

• Oversee financial reporting and compliance for government and private grants.
• Track restricted vs. unrestricted funding and ensure proper allocation of costs.
• Collaborate with program and development staff to support grant reporting.

Team Leadership & Operations

• Supervise finance staff and promote professional development.
• Collaborate with executive leadership to support strategic initiatives.
• Liaise with the Board’s Finance Committee, preparing presentations and reports as needed.

Qualifications:

Required:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 5+ years of progressive experience in nonprofit financial management.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and OMB Uniform Guidance (2 CFR 200).
• Experience managing federal and state grants.
• Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Quick Books, Sage Intacct) and Microsoft Office, especially Excel.

Preferred:

• CPA.
• Experience with audit preparation and interaction with external auditors.

Compensation and Benefits:

• Salary ranges from $80,000 to $95,000 based on experience. Health/Vision/Dental Insurance, 401(k) with match, Life Insurance, Short-term & Long-term Disability, Generous PTO (Vacation/Sick/Personal/Wellness/Birthday), Most Federal Holidays.
