Respiratory Therapist Job Details

  • Shifts: 3 x 12-hour night shifts/week, including every other weekend and holiday
  • Estimated Weekly Pay: $1830 - $1970
Registered Respiratory Therapist Qualifications
  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) in a hospital setting; NICU experience preferred
  • Active Pennsylvania Respiratory Therapist License
  • BLS, ACLS, NRP, and PALS certifications required
  • Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Therapy Specialty Training Program
  • Member of the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC)
  • S.T.A.B.L.E. certification
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
  • Ability to serve as a preceptor and shift coordinator after one year of employment
Respiratory Therapist Responsibilities
  • Assess patients' respiratory care needs and develop individualized care plans
  • Perform and document patient assessments and therapeutic modalities (aerosolized medications, secretion management, pulmonary volume expansion, oxygen therapy)
  • Assist with care and maintenance of artificial airways
  • Initiate and manage conventional and high-frequency mechanical ventilators
  • Provide age-specific patient and family education for disease management
  • Assist with intra-hospital transport of mechanically ventilated patients
  • Manage acute airway situations and set up non-invasive monitoring equipment
  • Assist with discharge planning for patients needing respiratory-related durable medical equipment (DME) supplies
  • Adhere to regulatory requirements, safety standards, and hospital protocols
  • Collect and process arterial blood gas samples
  • Support medical team during fiber optic bronchoscopy procedures and placement of invasive monitoring lines
  • Serve as a preceptor for orientees and students during clinical rotations
