Job Duties

The Perioperative RN assesses outpatient needs and plans, organizes, performs, and evaluates nursing activities to meet those needs.

This role is a per diem, union position with day shifts and rotating start times between 7:00 am and 9:30 am. Scheduling will be based on unit needs.

The position involves rotating between Pre-Op/PACU and Post-Op units.

Previous telemetry, PCU, or ICU experience is preferred.

Specific

Responsibilities include:

  • Receiving patient status reports from appropriate personnel.
  • Identifying and assessing patients upon arrival.
  • Performing initial nursing assessments and scoring.
  • Monitoring ongoing patient condition and recording manifestations.
  • Monitoring vital signs and reporting changes.
  • Observing monitoring devices and reporting deviations.
  • Reviewing medical records for postoperative orders and administering treatments accordingly.
  • Administering medications as per physician orders.
  • Performing discharge scoring and preparing patients for discharge based on criteria.
  • Providing patient and family education, documenting in the nursing record.
  • Assisting patients with nourishment and involving ancillary support as needed.
  • Following up with patients postoperatively to evaluate progress and provide referrals.
  • Participating in quality improvement activities and evaluating patient care quality.
  • Communicating with families to address concerns.
  • Engaging in professional development activities, including meetings and continuing education.
  • Ordering supplies as needed.
  • Maintaining safety and preventative maintenance of medical and technical equipment.
  • Assisting with orientation, in-service programs, and supervising students.

Position Details

Work is performed in a clinical environment. The role requires compliance with organizational policies and procedures. Responsibilities are typical but not exhaustive.

Education
:
Graduate from a Specialty Training Program in Nursing (Required)

Experience & Licenses
:
Licensed Registered Nurse in Pennsylvania; BLS certification.
