General SummaryUnder the supervision of a Registered Nurse, the Licensed Practical Nurse administers direct nursing care to patients and performs a variety of indirect patient care duties.
Brief DescriptionThe Licensed Practical Nurse must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his/her unit—adolescent through geriatric. The Licensed Practical Nurse must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span; possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status; interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to the populations served by the hospital;
and to provide the care needed as described in the Nursing Department's policies and procedures.

EducationGraduate of an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse Program required.
A pharmacology course of at least forty-five hours must be included in the basic education curriculum or have been attended post graduation.
Work ExperienceMinimum of two (2) years med-surg or rehabilitation experience required.
Special Employment RequirementsCurrent licensure as a Practical Nurse in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania required.
CPR certification must be obtained and maintained.
Clearances required: PA State Police criminal history check, PA Department of Public Welfare Child Abuse Central Register (Childline), PA Department of Human Services FBI fingerprint clearance and PA Department of Aging FBI fingerprint clearance (if applicable).
Physical DemandsMedium work: duties require exerting 25-50 lbs. of force occasionally (approx. 10-33% of shift) and/or 10-25 lbs. of force frequently (approx. 33-66% of shift).
Position involves bending, reaching, stooping, and lifting (occasionally in strained positions) throughout shift.
Position requires ability to transport self throughout facility.
Accident or Health HazardsExposure to blood and body substances.
Exposure to needle sticks possible.
Working ConditionsWorks in a well-lit nursing unit, which includes: nurse’s station, patient rooms, treatment areas, etc.
