As a Rural Mail Carrier you will be responsible for the safe and timely delivery of mail to businesses and residences within a designated area. You will drive a company-owned vehicle and follow a pre-determined route to pick up and deliver mail, packages, and other items.
- Load mail and packages into a USPS vehicle for delivery
- Drive a USPS vehicle along a designated route to pick up and deliver mail
- Sort mail for delivery and return undelivered mail to the post office
- Ensure accurate and timely delivery of mail to the correct address
- Collect signatures and payments for certified and registered mail
- Follow all USPS rules and regulations, including safety guidelines and traffic laws
- Report any suspicious mail or activity to a supervisor
- Maintain accurate records of mail deliveries and pickups
- Provide excellent customer service to the public
- Communicate effectively with customers, colleagues, and supervisors
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- A valid driver's license and a clean driving record
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Physical ability to lift heavy mail bags and packages
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Ability to work independently and follow a schedule
- Attention to detail and accuracy
- Familiarity with the local area and street names
- Ability to pass a background check and drug screening
This job requires working outdoors in all types of weather conditions, including extreme temperatures. Full-time mail carriers typically work 6 days a week, including weekends and holidays, and must be available to work flexible hours. This position involves driving a USPS vehicle, walking for extended periods, and lifting and carrying heavy mail bags and packages up to 70 lbs.
Salary and BenefitsThis is a non-career position, which may lead to a career position. The starting salary for a Rural Mail Carrier ranges between $18-$19 per hour, with opportunities for advancement and salary increases based on experience and performance.
