Position: Forest Technician- Utilities Department 2026/27

Consus Management Ltd. is a multidisciplinary consulting company with offices in Williams Lake and Vernon, British Columbia. We provide project management, civil project support, natural resource and environmental services across forestry, utilities, mining, transportation, and other resource and infrastructure sectors. Our team brings together planning, field development, GIS, environmental services, and tenure management to support projects from planning through approvals and implementation.

At Consus Management, we are committed to Truth and Reconciliation through respectful relationships with local Indigenous communities and practical initiatives that build understanding and support meaningful collaboration.

The Opportunity

We are looking for a Forest Technician to join our Utilities Department
. We welcome Trainee Forest Technologists (TFTs), Registered Forest Technologists (RFTs), and candidates with equivalent practical forestry experience.

This is a field-based forestry technician role supporting powerline inspections, vegetation management, and road access plans for utility projects in BC. Powerline related inspections are a major part of the role, and training will be provided. You will carry out assessments, support prescriptions, supervise contractor activities, and complete associated quality assurance checks. The role involves independent fieldwork in remote locations with varied terrain, and office work to prepare records and reports.

Work takes place across British Columbia and requires regular travel and overnight stays in hotels. Flexibility with work locations and schedules is required to meet project needs. The focus is practical forestry fieldwork and operational oversight rather than engineering design.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct powerline-related inspections in accordance with client procedures and training requirements. Document observations, photographs, and field data, and report any deficiencies or concerns to the project team. Training will be provided.
  • Assess vegetation along utility corridors and around infrastructure, recording site conditions, treatment needs, and operational constraints.
  • Prepare and support vegetation management prescriptions within your training and scope, with professional direction and review where required.
  • Carry out road assessments and collect field data on drainage, road condition, access, terrain, and maintenance requirements.
  • Prepare and support road maintenance and access prescriptions, documenting recommended work for project team review.
  • Communicate with landowners, Indigenous communities, clients, and other stakeholders as directed; document concerns and follow-up actions.
  • Coordinate activities on worksites involving multiple contractors, follow site safety procedures, and communicate changing conditions or concerns.
  • Maintain accurate field notes, GPS data, photographs, maps, inspection records, and reports; track deficiencies and confirm corrective work
What We’re Looking For
  • TFT or RFT designation, or equivalent relevant forestry field experience. Candidates working toward registration will also be considered.
  • Practical experience in vegetation management, forest assessments, road layout or assessments, or related forestry fieldwork.
  • A forestry diploma or related natural resource education is an asset.
  • Experience using GPS and digital field data collection tools, with strong attention to detail and accurate records.
  • Familiarity with ESRI mapping tools and Microsoft Office is an asset
  • Clear communication skills and experience working with contractors and stakeholders. Experience working safely on sites involving multiple contractors
  • Able to work independently within assigned responsibilities and seek direction when needed.
