VHB is seeking a Senior Project Manager with extensive Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) design experience to join our growing team in Virginia. This strategic position will play a central role in leading high-profile design projects, pursuing new Design‑Build (DB) contracts, and expanding VHB’s transportation presence across Virginia and the Mid‑Atlantic, including Richmond, Williamsburg, Virginia Beach, and the DC metro area.
With a strong focus on VDOT design projects and the Design‑Build delivery model, this role is ideal for a motivated leader ready to take on project delivery, client engagement, business development, and technical oversight responsibilities in a fast‑paced, forward‑thinking environment.
Responsibilities- Serve as Project Manager and Technical Lead on VDOT transportation design and interstate corridor projects across Virginia.
- Manage Design‑Build pursuits and delivery, coordinating closely with contractor partners to deliver innovative, cost‑effective solutions.
- Lead, grow and support VDOT design contracts, including upcoming pursuits in the I‑81 corridor and beyond.
- Mentor junior engineers and coordinate cross‑disciplinary design teams to ensure quality and timely project delivery.
- Provide technical expertise in highway design, geometric layout, grading, drainage, and VDOT standards.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including VDOT, local municipalities, contractors, and private clients.
- Support business development efforts and strategic pursuits, leveraging relationships and technical knowledge to win new work.
- Contribute to growth across multiple Virginia markets:
Richmond, Williamsburg, Virginia Beach, Metro DC, and Tysons.
- B.S. in Civil Engineering (M.S. preferred)
- Virginia PE license required
- 11+ years of progressive experience in transportation engineering, with a focus on VDOT roadway design and interstate projects
- Demonstrated experience managing Design‑Build projects in the transportation sector is preferred
- Strong familiarity with VDOT standards, procedures, and digital deliverables
- DBIA Certification or willingness to obtain
- Proven ability to lead multi‑disciplinary teams, manage budgets and schedules, and deliver quality results
- Effective communicator with strong client relationship and business development skills
