Senior Transportation Consultant
Join VHB as a Senior Transportation Consultant to help grow our expanding and innovative Transportation team across Virginia. This role can be based in Virginia Beach, Richmond, or Williamsburg, VA, and allows you to work with a dynamic team across diverse markets, exposed to a wide variety of projects in size and scope for state and local agencies.
Responsibilities- Develop engineering drawings, conceptual plans, and exhibits for a variety of projects ranging in size and complexity with limited supervision.
- Plan, research, and produce contract drawings based on constraints defined by the Project Manager, review agencies, and client needs.
- Design roadway based on information, schematics, and calculations developed by Designer.
- Determine CAD usage and application on projects.
- Recognize and resolve potential construction conflicts and difficulties identified during design.
- Aid in preparation of technical specifications.
- Ensure overall consistency, quality, technical accuracy, and design on projects.
- Provide CAD mentoring for other designers.
- Effective written, communication, analytical, and interpersonal skills to produce high-quality deliverables in an efficient manner.
- Team-oriented with strong capability to work independently.
- Motivated to lead and mentor others on CAD and drawing production procedures.
- Persistent initiative to continually learn new technical practices and earn the confidence of clients, company management, colleagues, and regulators.
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering preferred.
- 15+ years of experience working on complex transportation projects that involved roadway design, maintenance of traffic, grading, utility design and stormwater management.
- Experience in developing and compiling/producing roadway plans, construction documents, specifications, and engineering reports.
- Experience with GIS Systems is a plus – GIS is one of the tools we use to create better projects.
- Proficient in the some or all of the following:
AutoCAD Civil 3D, Micro Station, Geopak, Open Roads, Microsoft Project, MS Office Suite. - Experience in plan set production for Virginia locality or VDOT transportation projects preferred.
