Position: Welder/ Container Inspector

Welder/ Container Inspector

BMA is seeking a Welder/Container Inspector to join our team. This position is located in Williamsburg, VA and is contingent on contract award.

Job Summary
  • Support NAVELSG’s ISO/ISU container overhaul, recertification, and structural maintenance mission.
  • Perform critical welding, repair, and inspection tasks on ISO and ISU containers, shelters, and associated structural assemblies.
  • Ensure that every container meets the requirements of MIL-STD-3037, NAVFAC P-307, NAVFAC P-300, and original equipment manufacturer (OEM) technical standards.
  • Conduct pre- and post-maintenance assessments using DA Form 2404, execute welding operations in SMAW, GMAW, and GTAW processes, and apply corrosion‑control coatings and markings in accordance with MIL‑HDBK‑138 and MIL‑STD‑129.
  • Update documentation in DPAS‑WM and the Joint Container Management (JCM) system to maintain full traceability and certification records.
  • Perform welding repairs on steel, aluminum, composite, and structural components for ISO/ISU containers and shelters.
  • Conduct pre- and post‑maintenance inspections using DA Form 2404, documenting deficiencies, corrective actions, and certification status.
  • Identify structural damage—such as cracked welds, wall deformation, corrosion, or compromised base‑rails—and perform corrective maintenance per OEM standards and approved procedures.
  • Execute SMAW, GMAW, and GTAW welding processes to perform structural repairs, reinforcements, and modifications.
  • Apply corrosion‑control coatings, markings, and stencils in accordance with MIL‑HDBK‑138, MIL‑STD‑129, and NAVELSG labeling requirements.
  • Support container re‑inspection and certification cycles as a qualified AMMO‑43 container inspector.
  • Update DPAS‑WM, JCM, and other authorized systems with inspection results, repair actions, material usage, and certification data.
  • Maintain strict adherence to welding safety standards, environmental controls, PPE requirements, and OSHA regulations.
  • Track material consumption, welding rod usage, coatings applied, and repair part inventory to support accountability and readiness reporting.
  • Collaborate with Warehouse Managers, Maintenance Managers, and Overhaul Personnel to support container readiness, staging, and reconstitution activities.
Clearance Requirements

There is a Secret security clearance requirement for this position at the time of proposal submission.

Required Skills & Certifications
  • U.S. Citizenship and an active DoD Secret Security Clearance.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent, plus trade‑school certification in Welding, Fabrication, or Metalworking.
  • Minimum 2+ years of DoD or commercial welding and fabrication experience.
  • Proficiency in SMAW, GMAW, and GTAW welding processes, with demonstrated skill in structural repair.
  • Familiarity with MIL‑STD‑3037, NAVFAC P‑307, NAVFAC P‑300, and container inspection requirements.
  • Experience conducting container inspections using DA Form 2404 and documenting deficiencies accurately.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, weld symbols, and OEM technical drawings.
  • AMMO‑43 Intermodal Dry Cargo Container Inspection Certification.
Desired Skills & Certifications
  • Apprenticeship Certificate or Journeyman‑level qualification in Welding, Metal Fabrication, or Structural Repair.
  • AWS (American Welding Society) certifications, such as D1.1 Structural Welding—Steel or D1.2 Structural Welding—Aluminum.
  • Prior experience supporting NAVELSG, NECC, Naval shipyard, or DoD container maintenance programs.
  • Proficiency in reading engineering drawings, weld symbols, blueprints, and MIL‑STD‑based technical packets.
  • Experience with military container recertification programs, lifting‑gear inspections, or NAVFAC P‑307 compliance activities.
  • Experience in fabrication shops, metal repair depots, or expeditionary maintenance environments.
