SUMMARYThis position is responsible for maintaining the grounds and external appearance of the casino by performing semi-skilled and skilled functions so that Grand Traverse Resort & Casinos maintains its image as a fun-filled, clean friendly venue.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS- Maintain the appearance of the grounds by the following: picking up trash, mowing the lawn, raking leaves, pulling weeds, planting flower and trees, prune shrubs and trees as necessary, operate heavy landscaping equipment.
- Handling and application of fertilizers and pesticides.
- Performs maintenance and upkeep of all parking and sidewalk areas.
- Maintain the exterior of the building: wash windows, skylights, water walls.
- All aspects of snow removal: shovel, plow, de-ice sidewalks and building exits, operate heavy snow removal equipment.
- Install/remove outdoor signs, parking and traffic control barriers and overhead banners as required.
- Assist Grounds Supervisor in guiding, coaching, training and developing the technical and skills of Grounds Crew 1 staff.
- Assist in the coordination and completion of department projects: daily, weekly, monthly.
- Helps to create standards of cleanliness to which grounds employees need to adhere.
- Report any maintenance/safety problems immediately.
- Must be able to complete assigned duties with limited supervision.
- Willingness to cross-train and provide support in related areas of operations.
- Other duties as assigned.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Must have excellent customer service and communication skills both verbal and written. Must be a team player with a positive attitude. Must be highly organized and able to handle multiple tasks at one time. Must be able to complete tasks and projects in a timely manner by prioritizing obligations and time. Must possess the ability to work with various personalities while maintaining impartiality.
Must respond to supervisory guidance and assignments and accept constructive criticisms in order to learn new, updated information. The needs for quickness and ease of adjustment to the work environment and flexibility to change are essential in this position. Must be able to follow directions and have a strong work ethic. Must also possess the basic knowledge of power and hand tools.
Must be able to assist customers in different areas, if necessary. Be able to work independently and to complete projects in a timely matter.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCEMust be at least 18 years of age with experience using various hand/power tools and heavy equipment. A minimum of 1-year lawn care and maintenance or landscape industry is required.
