Job Summary
Assesses antepartal, intrapartal, and postpartal patients for risk factors, normal progress, symptoms of problems, and continuously monitor; detect changes in symptoms, health or pain, and take action as necessary; and quickly and accurately assess patient care needs. Responds to life saving situations based upon nursing standards, policies, procedures, and protocol. Sets priorities in plan of care based on assessed needs and anticipates personnel, supplies, and equipment required to care for patients based on assessed needs.
Works collaboratively with provider to provide exceptional care. Administers medications, IV therapy, and treatments in compliance with policies and procedures. Provides patient and family education. Records all care information concisely, accurately and completely, in a timely manner, in the appropriate format and on the appropriate forms. Orient and achieve competency from all areas of the Obstetrics Unit. Maintains order, stock, and cleanliness of all areas in the Obstetrics Unit.
Practices safe work habits, compliance with safety rules and regulations, and adheres to safety policies. Utilizes resources appropriately and follows facility guidelines, policies, and procedures.
Education and Experience
- Associate’s Degree in Nursing
- Licensed by the State of North Dakota Board of Nursing (RN)
- Certification for Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Certification for Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) (6 – Month Grace Period)
- Certification for Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) (12 – Month Grace Period)
- Strong oral communications skills
- Ability to deal with conflict and difficult people
- Strong critical thinking skills
- Knowledge of all regulatory agencies and their standards and processes
- Ability to manage multiple priorities

As our OB Nurse at CHI St. Alexius Health Williston, now part of Common Spirit Health, you’ll guide patients through the labor and childbirth process, focusing on safety of the mother and baby, with kindness and compassion.
In this department, you may triage patients, perform screening exams on walk-ins, guide patients through routine induction and delivery, monitor dilation progress, and monitor fetal heart rate. You’ll coach the mother during delivery and provide updates and support to the patient’s partner and loved ones. You must remain calm in emergencies and be sensitive to different circumstances.
