Field Service Technician – HPS

The Field Service Technician — HPS performs inspection, installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of horizontal pumping systems (HPS), pumps, motors and associated equipment at saltwater disposal and pipeline facilities. The role reports to the Manager of Operations and requires travel across the Williston Basin and to select out‑of‑basin locations (WY, CO, TX).

Responsibilities
  • Perform inspection, assembly, disassembly, repair, and maintenance of horizontal pumping systems (HPS).
  • Diagnose, recommend and implement appropriate solutions for mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues in pumps and associated equipment.
  • Set operating parameters on surface controller to assure operations within product liability range and ensure safety devices are installed and functioning correctly.
  • Check system design to ensure it includes adequate horsepower, correct cable size, correctly sized motor controller. Provide manager with written reports, equipment identification, inventory control.
  • Conduct precise alignments, testing of pumps to ensure optimal performance.
  • Perform vibration analysis using company‑owned diagnostic equipment.
  • Utilize tools such as Fluke meters, laser alignment tools, and vibration analyzers for diagnostics.
  • Work with VFDs (Variable Frequency Drives), PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), and control panels to support pump automation and efficiency.
  • Carry out routine motor greasing, lubrication services, and H‑Pump oil changes per scheduled service intervals.
  • Perform minor maintenance and repairs, including replacing or servicing seals, bearings, couplers, impellers, and thrust chambers as needed.
  • Oversee and assist with major maintenance projects such as motor swaps, pump swaps, and barrel changes.
  • Install, commission, and calibrate pumps, motors, and associated equipment to ensure optimal system performance.
  • Maintain and submit accurate service reports, maintenance logs, and inventory records.
  • Follow safety protocols, environmental regulations, and company procedures.
  • Collaborate with engineers, supervisors, and field personnel to optimize pump performance.
  • Travel to locations outside of the Williston Basin as needed (Wyoming, Colorado, Texas).
  • Perform other mechanical work as required to support maintenance and operations.
Qualifications

Education

  • High school diploma / GED or equivalent experience is required.

Experience / Specific Knowledge

  • A minimum of five (5) years’ relevant work experience.
  • Must be able to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, tech manuals and work specifications for various types of machinery and/or piping systems.
  • Must be able to calculate and understand units of measure.
  • Must be able to use and interpret various measurement tools to include calipers, micrometers.
  • Intermediate proficiency level in MS Office applications.
  • Ability to operate service tools such as multimeters, megohmmeters, laser alignment tools, vibration analyzers and hydraulic jacks.
  • Knowledge of electrical troubleshooting, hydraulics, and rotating equipment.
  • Experience working with VFDs and pump alignment tools.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record.
  • One Basin One Way certification (North Dakota).
  • Ability to obtain additional certifications as needed.
  • Good math skills and solid communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead toward operational excellence.
  • Must be able to perform all essential and marginal functions of the job.
Certifications & Licenses
  • Valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.
  • One Basin One Way certification (North Dakota).
  • Ability to obtain additional certifications as needed.
Physical Demands
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 32 pounds.
  • Capable of pushing forces up to 59.7 pounds.
  • Able to pull approximately 60 pounds.
  • Frequent manual material handling involving bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, and kneeling.
  • Must be able to walk, stand, climb stairs/ladders, and ascend/descend for extended periods.
  • Reach overhead, at shoulder, waist, knee, and floor levels with hand‑tool use.
