Minimum QualificationsKnowledge of the principles of operation and servicing of trucks and related automotive equipment. Knowledge of the traffic laws, ordinances, and regulations applying to equipment operation. Knowledge of the occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions in the operation of trucks and other automotive equipment. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to learn the geography of the city and assigned routes.
Ability to perform heavy physical work, often under adverse weather conditions. Skill in the operation of trucks and other automotive equipment. Working knowledge or ability to learn the operation of traffic signals and signal controllers. Working knowledge or ability to learn MUTCD and National Electric Code.
High school graduate or equivalent.
ExperienceOne year of experience demonstrating technical and mechanical abilities.
Necessary Special RequirementValid North Dakota commercial driver’s license; insurable under the City’s motor vehicle insurance policy. Must have or be able to obtain a Traffic Signal Technician Certification from IMSA or ATSSA.
Position is safety sensitive and requires pre-employment drug and alcohol testing and is subject to controlled substance requirements at all times when on duty.
Equipment Used in Job PerformanceBucket truck, hand tools, electrical meters, locators, striping machine.
Physical DemandsWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, talk and hear; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; sit; and climb or balance. The employee is occasionally required to taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds and regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
