Job Overview

This position is responsible for the day‑to‑day management of an increasingly complex portfolio of captive insurance clients, including risk retention groups and other sophisticated structures. The Accountant Manager leads a team of Account Managers and Staff Accountants, providing mentorship, performance reviews, and operational guidance. The role requires independent decision‑making, presentation of financial statements at board meetings, and adherence to ISMS policy and procedure.

Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as principal client liaison.
  • Supervise, train, mentor, and provide resources to Account Managers and Staff Accountants, including periodic performance reviews and support for remote staff.
  • Act as the office leader for account management and administrative staff in designated offices, overseeing performance evaluations.
  • Ensure client offices have appropriate resources and consistent review processes to meet financial and regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare periodic financial statement packages, perform self‑reviews, and oversee quarterly and annual NAIC statements (if applicable).
  • Complete annual statement/report from start to finish and write analysis of financial statements.
  • Plan and coordinate annual audit and actuarial review.
  • Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of accounting, insurance, and regulatory issues affecting captives.
  • Review premium tax returns and monitor compliance with regulations, advising clients of changes.
  • Prepare regulatory correspondence, including monitoring changes in business plans.
  • Serve as liaison with legal, actuarial, audit, and other service providers.
  • Independently prepare and present materials at board meetings and coordinate planning of annual (or more frequent) board meetings.
  • Ensure all relevant staff are copied on pertinent correspondence.
  • Engage in emerging and technical issues, serving as a resource for dissemination of information.
  • Review complex financial statement packages and prepare supervisory checklists.
  • Maintain client confidentiality.
Accountabilities
  • Deliver high‑quality service, meeting client service standards for a portfolio of captive clients.
  • Adhere to established regulatory, company, and client timelines and deadlines.
  • Follow guidelines, checklists, and procedures to ensure compliance and internal controls.
  • Recruit, hire, and retain top talent with HR support.
  • Identify and mentor future leaders of the organization.
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
  • Manage a complex captive insurance portfolio with minimal supervision.
  • Handle client issues independently.
  • Demonstrate leadership, mentorship, and ability to present to captive boards.
  • Stay current on emerging and technical issues in captive insurance.
  • Master insurance accounting concepts.
  • Work effectively in a deadline‑driven environment.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
Education, Training & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Accounting or a related field.
  • CPA or CPA candidate.
  • Associate in Captive Insurance or similar designation.
  • Knowledge of GAAP and insurance accounting principles.
  • Five years of statutory or alternative market insurance accounting experience.
  • Advanced proficiency in Word, Excel, Outlook, and Quick Books.
  • Active pursuit of continuing education to maintain designation requirements.
