Responsibilities
As a Special Advisor, you will execute mastery knowledge of, and skill in applying, laws and regulations through extensive experience in law enforcement to serve as a national authority and provide expert level analysis and advice on immigration law and policies, highly sensitive investigations, enforcement, and/or compliance work specifically pertaining to ERO operations to leadership across organizational lines in order to facilitate:
- Law enforcement policy review, emergent and long-range law enforcement operational planning, collaboration with international, Federal, State, and Local law enforcement communities, and detention standards and oversight.
- Collection and analysis of operational and actionable intelligence from wide-ranging sources including Federal, State, local law enforcement agencies, military departments, foreign governments, financial institutions, and technology companies.
- Development of new approaches in response to identified weaknesses and vulnerabilities of ongoing operations.
- You must be a U.S. citizen to apply for this position.
- You must successfully pass a background investigation.
- You must successfully pass a drug screen.
- Males born after 12/31/59 must certify registration with Selective Service.
- Requirements by Closing Date:
Unless otherwise noted, you must meet all requirements by the closing date of the announcement. - Current Federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade.
- Motor Vehicle Operation:
You must possess a valid automobile driver’s license at the time of appointment. - The position requires the selectee to carry a firearm. Misdemeanor domestic‑violence convictions are disqualifying.

Conditions:
Job requires physical strength and stamina due to long periods of surveillance, restraining suspects, and carrying heavy equipment. - Travel:
You will be required to travel frequently and on short notice. - Medical Requirements:
You may be required to pass a pre‑employment medical examination. - Requirement to obtain and maintain a Top Secret Clearance.
You qualify for the GS‑15 grade level if you possess one (1) year of specialized experience at the GS‑14 grade level or equivalent performing duties such as:
- Law enforcement policy review, emergent and long-range law enforcement operational planning, collaboration with international, Federal, State, and Local law enforcement communities, and detention standards and oversight.
- Collection and analysis of operational and actionable intelligence from wide-ranging sources including Federal, State, local law enforcement agencies, military departments, foreign governments, financial institutions, and technology companies.
- Development of new approaches in response to identified weaknesses and vulnerabilities of ongoing operations.
Completion of Basic Immigration Law Enforcement Training in accordance with 8 CFR 287.1(g) and other applicable agency policy is required. Acceptable training courses include:
- ; ICE_D; IOBTC; USBPI; OBT; ETP; ICE Special Agent Training Program; FLETC Criminal Investigator Training Program; ETC.
- Any new ICE Basic Immigration Law Enforcement Training course must be completed if there is a significant break of three years or more from a position that initially required this training.
