The Position

Marcus Construction is looking for a strong leader with the autonomy and decision‑making skills to champion our proactive safety culture by leading and enforcing safety policies across multiple construction projects and maintain our impeccable safety record. The Construction Safety Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing our safety programs and ensuring compliance with federal, state, local, and internal regulations and standards.

The role focuses on instilling a culture of safety and sustainability across all construction sites and corporate operations. All activities will be performed in support of the vision and values of the Company.

Essential Job Functions Leadership
  • Lead key initiatives and program development and support ongoing efforts to improve the company's safety culture. Promote a robust safety culture and encourage employee participation in safety programs.
  • Lead by example to ensure that all employees and subcontractors follow these safety requirements:
    • Consistently comply with and implement OSHA regulations, as well as all required and effective safety and construction procedures, methods, and standards for every building project on a daily basis.
    • Work with crew members in a safe, productive, and enjoyable work environment treating everyone with dignity and respect.
  • Provide leadership in quality process, safety, and accident prevention programs.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with owners, design partners, subcontractors, safety organizations and suppliers to ensure safety compliance and alignment.
  • Compile safety‑related statistics and trends, interpret government policies and recommendations, write up incident and discipline reports, recommend changes and work closely with department managers regarding training and discipline issues.
  • Organize, prepare, and conduct quarterly safety committee meetings.
Regulatory Compliance and Documentation
  • Conduct regular site inspections, safety audits, permits, and risk assessments to identify hazards and ensure compliance with safety standards.
  • Periodic review of completed subcontractor safety permits and safety inspections.
  • Assist with development of site‑specific safety plans and permitting related to safety.
  • Work closely with external insurance companies to report and manage safety‑related claims and assist in monitoring medical treatment of injured employees.
  • Serve as the point of contact for regulatory agencies during inspections or investigations; document, provide corrective/preventive action implementation and follow‑up to ensure compliance, including the use, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials.
  • Lead accident and incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective/preventive action implementation and follow‑up to document findings.
  • Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, incidents, employee discipline, training, and regulatory compliance.
Training and Mentoring
  • Mentor and coach construction personnel, fostering a positive and productive work environment that instills safety best practices and risk awareness.
  • Source and provide in‑person and virtual training sessions for employees, supervisors, and subcontractors on safety protocols, hazardous materials use and storage, hazard communication, emergency response, and environmental regulations.
  • Partner with leadership to develop needs assessments, gap analyses and training plans.
  • 3‑7 years of construction safety experience required, preferably in the construction industry.
  • Strong working knowledge of OSHA, EPA, NFPA, DOT, and other applicable regulations.
  • OSHA 500 or 502 training required within 1 year of appointment to this position.
  • First Aid/CPR/BBP and AED training, current to within 2 years.
  • Associated Safety Professional (ASP) and Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) certifications required within 2 years of appointment to this position.
  • Construction Stormwater Site Manager Certification (U of M Program) is required within 6 months of appointment to this position.
