SUMMARY: Providing safe and efficient transportation so that students may enjoy the fullest possible advantage from the District's curricular and extracurricular programs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESTo perform this job, the following are essential duties and responsibilities. Other appropriate duties may be assigned.
- Obeys all traffic laws, specifically those pertaining to school buses.
- Observes all mandatory safety regulations for buses including but not limited to child safety equipment (car seats, booster seats, safety vests).
- Maintains discipline when students are on the bus.
- Reports disciplinary issues and concerns to the proper authority.
- Keeps assigned bus clean.
- Checks bus before each operation for mechanical defects.
- Notifies the proper authority in case of mechanical failure or lateness.
- Discharges students only at authorized stops.
- Exercises responsible leadership when on out-of-district school trips.
- Transports only authorized students.
- Reports all accidents and completes required reports.
- Enforces regulations against smoking and eating on the bus.
- Ability to safely evacuate all passengers in an emergency vehicular situation including but not limited to passengers aged three to twenty-one, in adherence with the procedures outlined in the Transportation Employee Handbook.
- Other associated duties and responsibilities as needed.

- High School diploma; preference given to those having a minimum of two years college. Previous experience with children preferred.
- Valid Pennsylvania driver's license, School Bus Endorsement, Passenger Endorsement and Commercial Driver's License or be able to pass all tests to obtain the same. Must maintain a valid current state driver's license at all times. Must meet requirements of DL-502A License Requirement.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently stands; walks; sits; uses hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and taste or smell. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds with the ability to safely evacuate all passengers.
