Position: Physician - Radiologist (Open Continuous)

SUMMARY

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) – a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval and award (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review.

Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • United States Citizenship:
    Non-citizens may only be appointed when no qualified citizens can be recruited.
  • Doctor of Medicine or equivalent, from an approved VA school.
  • Full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in any US State, Territory, Commonwealth, or DC.
  • Completed residency training approved by VA in an accredited core specialty training program leading to board certification.
  • Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited programs and meeting basic requirements may be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs) on an intermittent or fee basis.
  • PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (not a training license) and have a restricted scope of practice under supervision.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Preferred experience:

    fellowship training in abdominal imaging, MSK, or neuroradiology.
  • Light interventional experience a plus.
  • Familiar with CT, MRI, US, and general radiology.
  • Physical requirements:

    repetitive motions, reaching, standing, walking, lifting equipment and patients; frequent standing and movement between patient areas; ability to lift objects from lower to higher positions; routine patient ambulation support.
DUTIES
  • The Wilmington VA Medical Center is seeking a full‑time experienced Diagnostic Radiologist with fellowship preference in abdominal imaging, MSK, or neuroradiology.
  • Light interventional experience a plus.
  • General diagnostic radiology duties and image interpretation across modalities.
  • Contribute to quality assurance, performance improvement, and technical quality oversight.
  • Educate staff and trainees; serve on committees supporting clinical operations.
  • Oversee quality and safety: review exam requests for appropriateness, prescribe protocols, provide technical feedback to technologists.
  • Clinical oversight of medication administration, including contrast preps.
  • Provide radiation and MRI safety resources, infection control oversight.
  • Participate in quality assurance activities (peer review, protocol review, appropriateness criteria, performance improvement).
  • Interpret imaging exams and produce reports with findings, differential diagnoses, recommendations.
  • Provide timely reports to support patient care.
  • Consult with providers on exam selection, results review, and other imaging support.
  • Participate in clinical conferences such as Tumor Board.
  • Work schedule:

    typical Monday‑Friday 8:00 am‑4:30 pm; other tours may be required.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
  • Base pay: $ / yr – $ / yr.
  • Sign‑on bonus authorized for highly qualified individuals.
  • EDRP available up to $200,000 over 1–5 years.
