Business Education Teacher-Middle School
Supervisory Position: No

Terms of Employment: 10 Months/Year

Reports To: Building Principal
Salary: Commensurate with the Brandywine School District’s Teacher Salary Schedule

Job Goal: Business teachers develop in each pupil an understanding of business systems and their place in the national/international economy. They instruct students in the intelligent consumption of business services; develop practical business skills for personal use or use in business occupations; and encourage pupils to develop work and personal habits essential for business success. Teaches knowledge and skills in one or more of the following subjects to secondary pupils;

basic business skills including but not limited to: computer applications, entrepreneurship, introductory economics, introductory marketing, introductory accounting, and financial literacy. Maintains knowledge about and contacts with the business community to keep current on job entry requirements and current business methods. Uses course of study as determined by the Department of Curriculum and Instruction.

Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in Education and/or specified subject;
  • Possess or be eligible for educator licensure and/or certification in Delaware for Business Education;
  • Mastery of the necessary content knowledge and skills to successfully teach assigned content area(s) and grade level(s) and deliver exceptional standards-based instruction in an assigned content area(s) and grade level(s) that ensures academic growth for all students, including those with special needs;
  • Proficiency in automated student information systems for progress and grade reporting and classwork documentation and ability to integrate technology into instructional delivery;
  • Exceptional classroom management, organization, planning, instructional delivery, leadership, and technical skills; and the ability to utilize differentiated instructional methods to engage students in positive learning experiences;
  • Outstanding ability to motivate and build relationships with students and parents to promote student achievement and strengthen community partnerships;
  • Commendable history of effective leadership, extra-curricular participation, an acceptable attendance record, and exemplary performance.
Essential Functions
  • Develop daily and unit lesson plans and a scope and sequence that are thoughtful, goal-oriented, and aligned with curriculum and integrate technology; maintain the pace of learning and provide opportunities for student differences, and check for student understanding and convey appropriately high expectations for students.
  • Design and implement engaging, standards-aligned curriculum in business, technology, and career exploration.
  • Use a variety of instructional methods to meet the diverse learning needs of middle school students.
  • Integrate technology and relevant software into daily lessons to simulate a modern business environment.
  • Teach fundamental business concepts, including financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and marketing.
  • Facilitate career exploration activities to expose students to various career paths.
  • Administer and interpret job interest surveys, such as Major Clarity, to help students identify their strengths and potential career matches.
  • Guide students in creating personal career development plans, connecting their interests and skills to future educational and professional opportunities.
  • Foster the development of social-emotional skills critical for success in the workplace.
  • Teach students how to develop emotional maturity to accept criticism constructively and learn from feedback.
  • Emphasizes the importance of soft skills, such as communication, collaboration, problem-solving, and time management.
  • Create a classroom culture that values professionalism, ethical behavior, and respect for diverse perspectives.
