Senior Piping Stress Engineer 2 - Nuclear
Senior Piping Stress Engineer 2 - Nuclear at Sargent & Lundy provides senior-level technical support in piping engineering and analysis, conducting evaluations in accordance with ASME B31.1, B31.7, and ASME B&PV Section III codes. The role includes specialty topics such as vibration monitoring, hydraulic transients, pipe rupture and corrosion evaluation, and thermal stratification effects.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare and review complex calculations for piping systems.
- Review simple and complex system or structural designs and prepare detailed system designs.
- Prepare documented design input for drawing production (e.g., P&IDs and master diagrams) and review design input for simple systems or structures; perform engineering review of drawings.
- Prepare and review equipment specifications and material specifications.
- Prepare bid evaluations for systems and larger components, support economic evaluations, and solicit vendor data.
- Prepare simple reports and studies.
- Develop single-discipline or simple-scope project budgets, schedules, and project work plans; monitor work to ensure completion within budget and on schedule.
- Provide input to simple proposals.
- Use effective written and oral communication skills to convey information to project team members and managers; present technical information clearly and concisely in all deliverables.
- Prepare reports and deliverables that meet client requirements; communicate clearly in client meetings and summarize meeting notes in a timely manner.
This position is based on a hybrid work schedule and requires in‑office work three days per week.
Essential Skills and Experience- BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, Aerospace, or Structural/Civil Engineering from an ABET‑approved program, with emphasis in solid mechanics, structural analysis, elasticity, metallurgy, and finite element analysis.
- Seven or more years of relevant experience.
- Knowledge of ASME B31.1 and ASME B&PV Section III piping codes.
- Knowledge of design, selection, and application of pipe supporting elements.
- Familiarity with commercially available piping products and their application.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- P.E. license.
- The ability to navigate a 3D CAD model.
- Experience with AutoPIPE or PIPESTRESS software.
- Knowledge of gas dynamics and hydraulic transients.
- Knowledge of pipe condition assessment.
- Experience with ANSYS Workbench and Mechanical ADP.
