Position Summary

The Process Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing chemical manufacturing processes to ensure safety, efficiency, scalability, and cost‑effectiveness for OLED materials. This role works at the interface of R&D and Manufacturing, supporting process development, scale‑up, technology transfer, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities
  • Design and conduct laboratory experiments to demonstrate commercial process feasibility and to establish essential engineering parameters, including the use of batch, semibatch, and continuous reactors.
  • Develop and/or optimize separation/isolation technologies.
  • Upgrade, maintain, and/or diagnose existing laboratory‑scale reactor systems.
  • Identify new equipment and technologies and/or assess their suitability for manufacturing.
  • Evaluate reactive chemistry and/or process hazards and oversee the implementation of engineering/process controls to ensure safe operating conditions.
  • Gather basic engineering design data, define operating conditions and critical limits, and establish safety parameters for the commercial process through scale‑up and modeling of unit operations.
  • Proactively identify and elevate risks to relevant stakeholders, and with guidance, lead development and execution of mitigation or contingency planning.
  • Provide engineering support for troubleshooting, process improvement, and root cause investigations.
  • Effectively document and transfer technology and know‑how for the design, construction, and operation of chemical reactors.
  • Specify and support the design of process equipment and instrumentation.
  • Design, direct, and coordinate work with external partners.
  • Be able to write and interpret technical information and effectively communicate with peers within the team and across the organization.
  • Accurately record experimental work within the electronic notebook(s).
  • Maintain a clean and safe laboratory work area and follow all relevant safety policies.
  • Be a responsible lab citizen.
Required Qualifications & Essential Skills
  • Relevant industrial experience in process scale‑up/technology transfer in chemical manufacturing operations.
  • PhD in Chemical Engineering with 2+ years of experience or MS with 5+, BS with 7+ years of experience.
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge in chemical synthesis and separation technologies.
  • Experience troubleshooting, maintaining, and optimizing reactor systems.
  • Strong understanding of reaction engineering, heat/mass transfer, and unit operations.
  • Hands‑on experience with process modeling tools and DOE/statistical analysis preferred.
  • Knowledge of laboratory instruments and analytical techniques (e.g. HPLC, GC, MS, NMR, and UV).
  • Experienced in basic computer applications including MS Office, Chem Draw, e‑notebook, and LIMS.
  • Strong organizational skills, keen attention to detail, and ability to prioritize projects and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and proactively with minimal direction.
  • Ability to perform and succeed in a multi‑disciplinary team environment.
  • Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with peers and management.
  • Ability to identify, analyze, and resolve problems in an efficient, proactive manner.
  • Demonstrated track record of accuracy and thoroughness.
  • Some traveling may be required.
