Position Description

The primary purpose of the Dietary Aide is to provide assistance in all dietary functions in accordance with established dietary policies and procedures. Dietary aides serve resident meals and snacks on a daily basis and support our dietary food service team as they verify that the proper food is served to the right resident – looking out for allergies, special needs, and requests.

Other duties may include delivering meals to resident rooms or tables on a timely basis, clearing trays, taking part in cleaning routines, and reading meal tickets.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Follow Federal and State long term care regulations and Dietary Department policies & procedures.
  • Perform work routines, using various dietary utensils, supplies and equipment as assigned by the Food Service Director and/or Cook.
  • Provide assistance to the cook and other dietary staff in the preparation and service of meals as assigned.
  • Set up meal trays, food carts, dining room, etc., as instructed. Set up a steam table, serve food in dining as instructed.
  • Assist in checking diet trays before distribution for errors regarding diet and allergies. Deliver and collect food carts, trays, etc. to/ from designated areas.
  • Perform dishwashing/cleaning procedures. Assure utensils, etc. are available for the next meal.
  • Knowledge of food handling, preparation and service.
  • Knowledge of local and state health and sanitation and safety codes is beneficial.
  • Basic understanding of kitchen cookware and appliances.
  • Previous cooking experience recommended.
  • Serv Safe certified; and Serv Safe Allergens certification recommended.
