Coordinate the summer swim program at our summer school location, ensuring the safety of children and adults.
Job Qualifications- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Lifeguard certification required.
- CPR training certificate required.
- Experience teaching children and young adult swim lessons, preferred.
- Experience working with special needs children, preferred.
- Ability to determine swimming level of participants
- Strong organizational and management skills essential.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills essential
- Coordinate and manage lifeguard and swim instructors’ schedules.
- Collaborate with summer building coordinators in developing class swim schedules.
- Distribute and keep on file signed permission slips for summer school students.
- Manage communication swim schedules with staff.
- Mange the swim deck including assigning staff to specific locations (pool, swim deck, lifeguard stand, outdoor water activities, etc).
- Educate instructors and lifeguards on how to work with special needs children inside and outside the pool.
- Mange swim lessons including grouping students by ability to ensure safety.
- Ensure chemical balances are at acceptable levels.
- Coordinate alternative activities on days the pool is not accessible.
- Oversee swim program to make sure that safety procedures, guidelines, and policies are followed.
- Warn students and adults of unsafe activities and enforce water safety policies and pool regulations.
- Provide first aid in the event of injury, rescue swimmers in danger or distress, and administer Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) or artificial respiration, if necessary.
- Assess conditions for safety and develop an action plan for aquatics emergency.
- Inspect pool equipment, facilities, and water to make sure they are usable and safe.
- Oversee and assist in cleaning equipment and facilities.
- Open and close the pool daily according to established hours of operation.
- Instruct classes in fundamentals of swimming.
- Develop, set up, and implement lesson plans.
- Teach beginning skills needed for swimmers; examples: flips, kicks, body rolls, floating, breath control, and basic swim strokes.
- Educate swimmers on basic water safety.
- Use a range of activities to improve water confidence.
- Define and set lesson goals and objectives for individual swimmers
- Ensure the pool or training area is clean, well-maintained, and free of hazards
- Other duties as assigned.
