Harris Space Superiority and Imaging site in Wilmington, MA is an industry leader in the design and production of space‑based optical telescopes for small satellites. The Operations Organization is looking for a talented and transformational leader to direct our Manufacturing Engineering department. This critical position will support the scaling and transformation of the organization by leading a growing team of Manufacturing Engineers to meet internal and external customer needs on both development and production programs.
The role will collaborate closely with various operational functions and operations leadership to drive business execution and continuously enhance manufacturing methods through new tools and process changes, ensuring superior product quality, increased production efficiency and capacity, and cost reduction across all programs from proposal to delivery.
- Manage, grow, and transform a team of manufacturing engineers, adapting the structure to best meet the needs of customers and the business.
- Establish and drive continuous improvement to team processes using the e3 operating system; develop new concepts or standards where applicable.
- Communicate within and outside the organization to explain and influence changes to policies, procedures, and systems.
- Lead, direct, and review the work of direct reports; work with them to solve problems on individual programs, conducting extensive investigations to understand root causes where information is difficult to obtain.
- Work with program management, engineering, and operations in both new product introduction and production environments to meet production/program goals.
- Utilize data and analytics to monitor key performance indicators (KPIs), identify trends, and make data‑driven decisions to improve manufacturing operations.
- Develop the capability of the Manufacturing Engineering team; grow technical skills, as well as project management, facilitation, and leadership skills.
- Assist in driving a culture of data‑based actions; use existing data or develop tools and metrics to create actionable information to drive improvement.
- Coordinate Manufacturing Engineering tasks and resources across all programs.
- Develop and maintain skills matrix and training plan, identify staffing needs.
- Forecast headcount and execute hiring needs to support the department.
- Work directly with product development experts on the transfer of designs and processes to manufacturing, including driving DFMAT into new product introductions.
- Drive a safety and quality‑first culture on the Manufacturing Engineering team.
- Spend ½ time directly supporting program activities.
- Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of 6 years prior relevant experience;
Graduate Degree with a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience; or, in lieu of a degree, a minimum of 10 years of prior related experience. - Ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance.
- Knowledge and experience with Lean and Six Sigma tools such as 5S, value stream mapping, Kaizen, process control, etc.;
Six Sigma Lean Green Belt or higher certification preferred. - Proven success and results in driving improvements in cost, quality, and efficiency in manufacturing environments.
- Strong communication, organizational, time‑management, problem‑solving, and analytical skills.
- Ability to effectively multi‑task and support multiple programs simultaneously.
- Experience with DFM and DFA.
- Experience with optical systems and technology.
- Experience with NPI.
In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in Massachusetts is $94,000 - $175,000. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary; the final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
