The Manufacturing Process Engineer develops and optimizes continuous production and manufacturing processes to achieve the output, quality, and cost goals of the organization. Collects production data and applies standard scientific and statistical methods to analyze, document, and diagram production processes. Identifies process bottlenecks and devises solutions to resolve. Implement changes or upgrades to equipment, work methods, or other aspects of the process to improve efficiency and utilization of resources including labor, energy and raw materials.
Responsibilities- Lead process development:
Design, validate, and implement new or improved manufacturing processes, equipment, and workflows. - Drive continuous improvement:
Apply Lean, Six Sigma, and statistical methods to reduce waste, variability, and cycle time. - Own root cause analysis:
Investigate production issues using structured problem solving tools (5 Whys, Fishbone, DMAIC). - Develop process documentation:
Create and maintain SOPs, PFMEAs, control plans, and work instructions. - Lead cross‑functional projects:
Partner with Quality, R&D, Maintenance, and Operations to deliver process improvements and new product introductions. - Optimize equipment performance:
Specify, procure, and validate machinery; improve OEE and reliability. - Support new product introduction:
Translate product requirements into robust, scalable manufacturing processes. - Analyze production data:
Use SPC, capability studies, and data analytics to monitor and improve process performance. - Ensure regulatory compliance:
Maintain adherence to safety, environmental, and industry‑specific standards (ISO, FDA, AS9100, etc.) - Mentor junior engineers:
Provide technical guidance and support skill development across the engineering team.
- Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field.
- 4‑7 years of experience as a Manufacturing Process Engineer.
- Expertise in Lean/Six Sigma methodologies;
Green Belt or Black Belt preferred. - Hands‑on equipment experience:
Process automation, robotics, machining, molding, assembly, or other relevant technologies. - Proficiency in data analysis:
Minitab, JMP, Python, or similar tools. - Knowledge of ERP/MRP systems to support production planning and process tracking.
- Must be able to ascend and descend ladders, scaffolds, stairs, and work in confined spaces and in proximity to loud equipment.
- Must be able to lift and carry or otherwise move up to 50 pounds occasionally.
- Must be able to see and respond to dangerous situations.
- Must be able to wear personal protective gear most of the day.
