Massachusetts Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired offers a number of services:

• Community Volunteer Program – volunteers work one-to-one with visually impaired adults in their community, assisting with reading or shopping.
• Support Groups – individuals gather to share challenges and resources.
• Vision Rehabilitation – specialists help elders with low vision for daily activities.

MABVI’s greatest need currently is for volunteers in the Boston region, willing to travel anywhere in the City of Boston. Volunteers are expected to travel a minimum of 10‑15 miles.

This volunteer would help a participant read mail and go for walks in Wilmington, MA. A car is needed for this role. The volunteer will assist once a week or bi‑monthly.

Role responsibilities include:

• Reading mail
• Paying bills
• Internet use/technology assistance
• Medical transportation
• Grocery shopping
• Running errands in the community
• Recreational activities such as being a running/walking sighted guide
• Other clerical tasks

Time commitment – this opportunity is flexible based on your match’s needs. Volunteers typically devote 1–2 hours a week or every other week.

Volunteer onboarding process includes:

• Schedule a time to chat via Zoom with a member of the MABVI Volunteer Team / Submit a CORI
• Meet the MABVI Volunteer Team via Zoom or phone call
