Overview

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry within the College of Science and Engineering at the University of North Carolina Wilmington invites applications for a nine‑month, tenure‑track Assistant Professor position in Analytical Chemistry to begin in August 2026. The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in analytical chemistry, as well as other courses aligned with their expertise and departmental needs.

In addition, the candidate will develop and maintain a vigorous, externally funded research program that actively involves undergraduate and graduate students. Responsibilities also include academic advising, mentoring undergraduate students, and participating in departmental service such as committees, meetings, and special projects that support the goals of the department.

Responsibilities
  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in analytical chemistry and related disciplines.
  • Develop and maintain an externally-funded research program involving undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Provide academic advising and mentoring for undergraduates.
  • Participate in departmental service, including committee work, meetings, and special projects.
Qualifications
  • A Ph.D. and postdoctoral experience are required.
  • Research experience at either the doctoral or postdoctoral level should be in analytical chemistry.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated ability to establish an independent, externally funded research program.

Department Overview

Chemistry & Biochemistry at UNCW offers bachelor’s, master’s, and Ph.D. programs in Chemistry and Biochemistry. Faculty possess state-of-the-art instrumentation including 300–600 MHz NMR spectrometers, MS instruments, spectrophotometers, protein purification instrumentation, CD spectrometer, and calorimeters (DSC and ITC). Courses cover all aspects of chemistry, with many undergraduate and graduate students engaged in research supervised by faculty.
