Job DescriptionThe D.C. Virgo Preparatory Academy Teacher plans and delivers instruction and assessments based on the North Carolina Standard Course of Study. Instruction enables students to learn subject matter and skills that contribute to their educational and social development. The position utilizes a personalized student data management system to individualize learning experiences and provides ongoing formative assessment to inform instructional decisions and design appropriate interventions.
Teachers operate as members of the school’s kinship network, an extended family unit that supports the growth and development of all students. Staff actively participate in professional learning communities with colleagues and faculty from the Watson College of Education.
Minimum Education and Experience RequirementsA bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience- Master’s degree in education or a related field
- Valid North Carolina teaching license
- Dual certification
- Eligible to hold a commercial driver’s license (CDL)
- Experience mentoring pre‑service or beginning teachers
- National Board Certification
- Experience working with diverse populations and students who have historically struggled academically and socially
- Evidence of participation in training and learning opportunities for professional growth and development
- Progress on the NC Educator Effectiveness Rating Scale or a comparable metric that aligns with North Carolina Teaching Standards
D.C. Virgo Preparatory Academy supports the academic, social, and emotional growth of students in kindergarten through eighth grades. College/School InformationThe Watson College of Education (WCE) ((Use the "Apply for this Job" box below).) is a growing college with over 60 tenure‑track faculty members working in undergraduate and master’s programs in the Department of Early Childhood, Elementary, Middle, Literacy and Special Education, and the Department of Instructional Technology, Foundations and Secondary Education, and master’s and doctoral programs in the Department of Educational Leadership.
