Brief Summary of Work for this PositionThe Department of World Languages and Cultures at the University of North Carolina Wilmington invites applicants for up to two nine-month non-tenure track Lecturer in Spanish positions to begin August 2027.
Lecturer positions are renewable annually, contingent upon satisfactory performance, departmental needs, and the availability of funding. There may be an opportunity to contribute to summer teaching and/or lead study abroad programs for additional compensation.
Primary responsibilities will include teaching four courses per semester, primarily in a face-to-face format at the introductory and intermediate levels, as well as other courses based on departmental needs and the expertise of the selected candidate(s).
Additional responsibilities will include contributing to service within the department, university community and/or profession, and advising and mentoring undergraduate students.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements- Master's degree or Ph.D. in Spanish at time of application
- Experience teaching Spanish face-to-face as instructor of record at the college/university level
- Native or near-native proficiency in Spanish and English
- Evidence of high-quality face-to-face teaching effectiveness
- Evidence of high-quality online teaching effectiveness
- Evidence of knowledge of language pedagogy and its application through impactful teaching methods
The Department of World Languages and Cultures in the College of Humanities, Social Sciences, and Arts is one of the largest academic units at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. With over 50 faculty members, we offer on-campus and online master's degrees in Spanish; on-campus and online post-baccalaureate certificates in Hispanic Studies; a combined BA/MA program in Spanish; bachelor's degrees in French, German, and Spanish;
and minors in Classics, French, German, Japanese, Portuguese, Spanish, and Russian. We also offer classes in American Sign Language, Arabic, and Italian.
The College of Humanities, Social Sciences, and the Arts ( CHSSA ) is home to 14 academic departments and offers a wide variety of undergraduate and graduate degree programs including the Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Fine Arts, Bachelor of Music, Master of Arts, Master of Fine Arts, and Master of Public Administration as well as combined bachelor's/master's degree programs in Spanish and English.
The CHSSA also houses the Gender Studies and Research Center and the Academic Resource Center, which offers full-service, professional advising for all CHSSA undergraduate students. In addition,
