Lead Tool Design Manufacturing Engineer at GE Vernova
We are looking for a seasoned engineer to design, develop, and maintain tooling used in the manufacture of hardware for commercial nuclear power reactors. The role emphasizes motion control, automation, and continuous improvement within our Fuel Manufacturing Operation. This position is based at our headquarters in Wilmington, NC and requires relocation assistance if you are not already local.
Essential Responsibilities- Execute design and development of specialty tooling and equipment applying sound engineering principles and adhering to engineering standards and product requirements.
- Develop tooling of medium to high complexity using Mechanical, Electrical, Software Programming, and Motion Control design.
- Proactively communicate and deliver assignments on time.
- Identify and mitigate technical risk.
- Communicate technical detail to fabricators and technicians through fabrication drawings, specifications, and direct communication.
- Generate equipment documentation including operating procedures, maintenance guides, training material, technical reports, and functional test instructions.
- Track and trend equipment performance and drive improvement projects to reduce lost productivity and quality non‑conformances.
- Contribute to the success of others by providing feedback and technical input during design reviews and verifications.
- Interface with a broad, multi‑disciplinary team.
- Obtain commercial nuclear site entry.
- Support 24/7 manufacturing operations, including emergency response and scheduled projects.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited university or college.
- At least 3 years of experience in an engineering role.
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Proficient in 3D CAD design and computer skills.
- Solid understanding of Motion Control principles, PLCs, and programming.
- Experience with selection, use, and design of motion control components for mechatronic devices.
- Ability to troubleshoot equipment and implement effective changes.
- Ability to assess technical risk and devise suitable mitigation strategies.
