Key Responsibilities
- Develop detailed structural steel designs, including beams, columns, connections, braces, stairs, platforms, and miscellaneous steel components for commercial and industrial buildings.
- Create and/or work with 3D models and 2D construction drawings; experience with Tekla Structures, SDS/2, AutoCAD, Revit, or similar tools is a plus.
- Perform structural analysis and calculations for loads, stresses, and connections in accordance with AISC standards, building codes, and project specifications.
- Prepare shop drawings, fabrication details, bills of materials (BOM), and material take-offs to support efficient steel fabrication.
- Generate erection drawings and sequencing plans for on‑site installation teams.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, detailers, fabricators, and clients to resolve design issues and incorporate feedback.
- Review architectural and engineering plans to identify conflicts and propose value‑engineered solutions.
- Conduct site visits as needed to verify field conditions and support erection activities.
- Ensure safety, cost‑effectiveness, and compliance with OSHA, AISC, and local regulations.
- Participate in project meetings and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams for seamless project delivery.
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Drafting/Design Technology, Architecture, or a related field (Associate degree with strong experience may be considered).
- Preferred 2+ years of experience in structural steel design and detailing for commercial/industrial projects.
- Preferred proficiency with structural steel detailing software (Tekla Structures, SDS/2, Advance Steel) and CAD tools (AutoCAD, Revit).
- Knowledge of AISC standards, IBC codes, welding symbols, and steel connection design (bolted & welded).
- Familiarity with structural analysis software (RISA, STAAD, RAM) is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail, problem‑solving skills, and ability to work in a fast‑paced environment.
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with multiple teams.
- Ability to read and interpret architectural and structural drawings.
- Professional certifications (EIT/PE, AISC, etc.) are advantageous but not required.
