Controls Engineer – Velia Multi Services

Location:

Wilmington, NC

Salary: $87,309 - $120,050 (annually) — posted 4 months ago

  • Conceptualize, detail and implement control systems for industrial processes and machinery that meet client requirements; develop control system architecture, select components, detail schematic diagrams and system documentation.
  • Program controllers (PLC, DCS, RTU), design process visualization (HMI/SCADA) and develop databases for archiving/displaying historical system data.
  • Implement and commission control systems at client facilities; possess knowledge of Ladder, SFC, Structured Text programming languages and, preferably, VBA, .NET and SQL for HMI/SCADA development.
  • Design, detail and implement fiber, wired, and wireless networking using industrial protocols (Ethernet/IP, Profibus, Modbus, etc.) for larger systems.
  • Work independently or as part of a collaborative team; may act as technical lead on projects and guide junior engineers and technicians; could also act as Project Manager on smaller projects.
  • Travel up to 25%.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical/Control Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Computer Science.
  • 5+ years experience with PLC hardware/software platforms (e.g., Rockwell Automation).
  • Experience with HMI/SCADA platforms such as Rockwell Automation and Inductive Automation Ignition.
  • Experience with DCS platforms such as Emerson Delta

  • Working knowledge of field instruments used in process control systems.
  • Familiarity with electrical schematics, power distribution up to 480 VAC, control panels, and applicable NEC standards.
  • Proficiency in automation protocols: HART, Foundation Fieldbus, Traditional I/O, Profibus, Ethernet IP, OPC, Modbus TCP/IP.
  • Strong leadership and client‑relation skills.
  • Familiarity with S88 Batch, GAMP5, system and software development life‑cycle methodologies, and validation.
  • Experience with relevant regulatory requirements of the life science industry (cGMP, 21 CFR Part 11, etc.).
  • Experience with SQL databases.
  • Professional references (peer and manager).

  • Seeing, color perception, hearing, listening, clear speech, dexterity in hands, driving, lifting, climbing, ability to mount and dismount equipment, pushing, and pulling.
  • Standard office environment, on‑site office environments, and diverse industrial environments; frequent PC usage, fax machines, copy machines, phones.
