Purpose:

The Infection Control Employee Health Nurse is the primary resource for infection control issues with ongoing collaboration with other staff to provide optimal patient care, to evaluate their care. Incumbent is also responsible for managing and delivering patient care utilizing the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation.

  • Overseeing the annual development, implementation, and evaluation of Infection Prevention goals and objectives, and conducting planning and risk assessment to reduce and control the risk of health care associated infections
  • Maintaining an effective clinic-wide program for the surveillance, prevention and control of infections, in accordance with Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC), Statewide Program for Infection Control (SPICE), and Epidemiology recommendations.
  • Develop policies and procedures that support key infection prevention and control functions.
  • Integrating infection control into all Wilmington Health clinic activities and developing awareness about the Infection Prevention and Control Program.
  • Maintaining regular communication with agencies, healthcare facilities, and federal, state, county and local public health authorities
  • Preserving and improving the quality of care by sharing information with all relevant departments
  • Managing the collection and analysis of healthcare associated infection data and logs, as well as the development and presentation of reports and educational programs for personnel and patients.
  • Overseeing infection prevention and control practices, as well as assisting departments in survey readiness and preparation for regulatory standard reviews, accreditation and licensure surveys in both the acute and ambulatory care areas (e.g. OSHA, DHS, CMS, etc.)
  • Consults with managers in clinical and non-clinical areas.
  • Maintain current knowledge of CDC guidelines and recommendations for infection prevention/control.
  • Provide staff and patient education on risk of infection and practices to reduce risks. Responsible for providing infection prevention orientation and other in-service programs related to infection prevention and control.
  • Collaborate with HR and provide direction regarding employee health issues such as exposures, vaccines, communicable diseases and other infection prevention/control related issues involving Wilmington Health employees.
  • Serve as point of contact for employee vaccinations. Perform all employee TB vaccinations at hire and coordinate TB vaccinations annually.
  • Coordinate biometric screening for employees; collaborate with current WH insurance carrier to plan and implement the program effectively.
