The Bariatric Program Coordinator works under the direction of the Surgical Institute leader, assisting in center development, managing the accreditation process, ensuring continuous compliance with MBSAQIP requirements, maintaining relevant policies and procedures, providing patient education, collecting outcomes data, participating in quality improvement efforts, and educating staff regarding the metabolic and bariatric surgery patient, with a focus on patient safety.
WhatYou'll Do
- Functions as the clinical resource for all team members participating in the care of bariatric surgical patients.
- Maintains accreditation compliance and serves as the facility resource for all departments involved in the care of the bariatric surgical patient.
- Assists departments in developing policies and procedures to ensure compliance with accreditation standards.
- Coordinates MBSAQIP-required education for the appropriate team members, including bariatric sensitivity training, signs and symptoms of postoperative complications, and patient transfer and mobilization.
- Completes annual department competencies and completes department and hospital mandatory education requirements.
- Works closely with the MBS Director and MBS Clinical Reviewer to evaluate the bariatric dashboard and data registry reports to identify opportunities for quality improvement.
- Education:
- 4-Year / Bachelor's Degree, preferred. Licensed or registered health-care professional.
- 2-Year / Associate Degree, required.
- Experience:
- Minimum of three years experience in the care of bariatric patients.
- Minimum of one year in surgical monitoring, preferred.
- Licensure/Certification: RN, RD, or other licensed health-care professional, required.
- Additional Skills/Requirements (required):
- General knowledge of the entire continuum of care for the bariatric surgical patient, including the ambulatory and acute settings.
