About

The Role

Wilmington Machinery is expanding its contract molding operations and is seeking a Buyer to manage purchasing, material planning, inventory control, and ERP job setup for molding and post‑processing workflows. The role ensures raw materials, packaging, tooling, and consumables arrive on time, meet specifications, and maintain required traceability (including FM Approvals). The Buyer works closely with Operations, Scheduling, Quality, Engineering, and Shipping to maintain accurate ERP data, support production flow, and ensure on‑time delivery to customers.

This is a hands‑on, detail‑focused manufacturing purchasing role—not a senior sourcing position.

Key Responsibilities
  • Purchase raw materials, packaging, tooling, and consumables for molding and assembly.
  • Solicit quotes, evaluate supplier options, and negotiate pricing and delivery terms.
  • Issue purchase orders and monitor supplier performance and delivery status.
  • Verify purchased materials meet engineering and quality specifications.
  • Create and maintain jobs in Encompix, including part numbers, BOMs, material requirements, and order quantities.
  • Enter required dates, order release dates, and lead times to ensure accurate scheduling.
  • Issue travelers and route sheets to production with correct revisions and documentation.
  • Maintain accurate part/item setup including units of measure, cost, and supplier information.
  • Establish and maintain inventory min/max levels and automated reorder points for all resin, packaging, and consumables.
  • Track on‑hand quantities and expected receipts to prevent shortages or overstock.
  • Execute timely replenishment based on production demand and ERP planning signals.
  • Support cycle counts and reconciliation of inventory discrepancies.
  • Ensure all raw materials come from approved vendors and meet FM‑required specifications.
  • Maintain traceability documentation including COAs, batch numbers, and certifications.
  • Support FM audit readiness by ensuring complete material traceability documentation is attached in Encompix.
  • Track supplier on‑time delivery, material quality issues, and pricing trends.
  • Identify opportunities for cost reduction without affecting compliance or quality.
  • Support Engineering and Quality during supplier qualification or material change processes.
  • Collaborate with Scheduling to align material arrivals with production runs and release windows.
  • Provide Operations with updated material delivery statuses and expedite information.
  • Work with Shipping to ensure customer orders are staged, packaged, labeled, and shipped correctly and on time.
  • Assist Quality during nonconformance events by coordinating returns, replacements, or credits.
  • Maintain accurate purchasing, pricing, and supplier records in Encompix.
  • Attach COAs, packing slips, and certifications to receiving entries.
  • Continuously improve ERP data integrity, part setup, and purchasing workflows.
Required Qualifications
  • Purchasing or material planning experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong understanding of ERP systems (Encompix preferred but not required).
  • Ability to read basic engineering drawings and understand material specifications.
  • Strong documentation, communication, and organization skills.
  • Experience working cross‑functionally with Operations, Quality, and Scheduling.
Preferred (Not Required)
  • Experience in plastics, molding, or assembly purchasing.
  • Background with FM Approvals, ISO, or structured quality systems.
  • Knowledge of injection‑molding terminology and resin handling.
  • MRP planning experience and understanding of demand‑based replenishment.
Why Join Wilmington Machinery?
  • Be a central part of a rapidly growing contract molding program with long‑term customer demand.
  • Gain hands‑on experience in purchasing, MRP planning, FM compliance, and ERP job setup.
  • Work in a collaborative environment with Engineering, Operations, and Quality.
  • Opportunities for growth as volume increases and additional molding programs launch.
