Working ScheduleThe practitioner will normally work rotating 12‑24 hour shifts to include weekend assignments and night call. An average of 40 hours/week of duty time will be maintained over any given scheduling period. The working schedule may be changed as clinical needs dictate.
SummaryA Nurse Practitioner functions as part of the interdisciplinary healthcare team in accordance with privileges approved by the credentialing committee to provide high‑quality, cost‑effective care to patients within the APP’s scope of practice in collaboration with a supervising physician. The APP reflects the mission, vision, and values of the organization, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and other regulatory and accreditation standards.
Responsibilities- Clinical – Obtains relevant health and medical history, performs thorough physical assessment, reviews and interprets pertinent diagnostic tests/results; develops appropriate differential diagnoses; develops and implements treatment plans including prescribing/ordering evidence‑based pharmacological agents; conducts preventive health screening; maintains clear, comprehensive records; keeps current knowledge of diseases, pathologic processes, and specialty literature; consistently derives correct diagnoses; revises the plan of care; prioritizes work;
maintains high productivity; leads or participates in projects to improve productivity; performs medical procedures per guidelines. - Education – Appropriately and professionally educates clients and families about medical condition, treatment, and follow‑up; collaborates with clinicians, staff, and students to promote continuity and patient/family‑centered care; develops educational materials; provides education to physicians, house staff, nursing, ancillaries, and students; identifies and meets self‑learning needs; attends education programs.
- Leadership – Provides instruction to physicians, house staff, nursing, ancillaries, and students (precepting, shadowing, lectures, training classes, CE, rounds, morning report, staff meetings); participates in community/network outreach programs; develops/leads such programs; demonstrates understanding of the healthcare context and applies knowledge to improve delivery; leads or participates in systems improvements.
- Professional – Interacts with patients and families in a respectful, courteous, and timely fashion using appropriate communication; collaborates with coworkers and team members likewise; responds quickly to meet customer needs; accepts responsibility for outcomes; shares workload responsibility.
- Quality/Research – Engages in continuous quality improvement; identifies and implements improvement processes; consults with management on assessment, problem‑solving, decision‑making; leads interdisciplinary teams; initiates and revises protocols or guidelines per evidence; influences policy‑making bodies; develops new clinical programs or services to improve patient care.
- Completion of an accredited graduate‑level Advanced Practice Provider (APRN or PA) program.
- Preferred: MSN in Nursing from an accredited School of Nursing and NCC board certification as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner; successful completion of a Master’s and/or Doctorate degree Neonatal Nurse Practitioner university‑based program whose curriculum has been approved by the North Carolina Medical Board.
- Licensed as an Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant, Clinical Pharmacist Practitioner, Certified Nurse Midwife, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist) in the state of North Carolina.
- Board certification if required by the Department; DEA.
- The incumbent must maintain a current North Carolina licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse (RN).
