American Traveler is hiring an RN for a Med/Surg Tele unit requiring 2 years of surgical unit experience and comfort with 1:6 patient ratios.

• Inpatient surgical unit with combination acuity: adult medical surgical and surgical stepdown
• Night shift, 3x12 hours (18:45-07:15)
• 36 or 48 hour weekly schedules accepted
• Contracts of 13-26 weeks accepted
• Patient ratio of 1:6 for surgical/medicine inpatient floor
• Wide range of surgical and trauma diagnoses including cellulitis, appendicitis, cholecystitis, diverticulitis, MVAs, gunshot wounds, stabbings, falls, cancers, kidney stones, bowel obstruction, PVD, limb ischemia, hernia, and gangrene
• Procedures include cholecystectomy, appendectomy, hernia repair, TURP, ostomy creation/closure, wound debridement, tumor removal, kidney stone removal, amputations, and fem pop bypass
• Equipment used includes wound vacs, chest tubes, NG tube/Corpak, JP drains, hemovac drains, and Penrose drains
• Uses EPIC for documentation, Pyxis for medication, and SBAR for communication
• Floating required as needed
• Every other weekend required
• No on-call requirements

• Active RN license (NC or Compact) required
• BLS certification required
• Minimum 2 years of surgical unit experience required
• Must be comfortable with 1:6 patient ratios
• Experience with respiratory care including BiPAP/CPAP, chest tubes, high flow nasal cannula, and nasal cannula
• IV therapy and phlebotomy skills including central line, PICC line, and peripheral line care
• Experience with feeding tube care and management
• Experience with heparin protocols and PCA pump management
• Cardiac monitoring skills including dysrhythmia interpretation and management
• Experience with isolation precautions/PPE and wound care/wound vac management
• Must pass EKG testing prior to start
• Two professional references from a supervisor within the past 2 years required (pending acceptable at submission)
• Active State Board of Nursing license verification and NURSYS verification required

• Provide nursing care for patients in a combination adult medical surgical and surgical stepdown unit
• May be assigned to a Storm Team or Hurricane Team and could be required to report during a catastrophic event, mass casualty, or disaster
• Unit orientation includes 2 days of hospital orientation plus 24 hours of floor training
• Pre-start modules required (8-10 hours for acute care roles), completed online and annually
• Scrub requirement: all navy or navy bottoms with white top
• Must work 2 of 3 major holidays
• RTO of 7 days or less may be auto-approved if not on a holiday; no RTO allowed during first week of assignment
• Former Novant Health or New Hanover employees must wait 12 months before reapplying, with facility approval required
• Travel pairs allowed if assigned to different units with separate disclosure
• First-time travelers will be considered if experienced
• Local candidates accepted within 50 miles at a local rate
