American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele night shift position requiring 2 years of experience and floating to multiple units.
Details- Med/Surg Tele unit in a hospital setting
- Patient diagnoses include diabetes, dementia, COVID, pneumonia, COPD, sepsis, encephalopathy, GI bleed, anemia, hip fracture, CHF, UTI, renal failure, hypertension, cellulitis, failure to thrive, and various surgical recovery cases
- Patient ratio of 1:6
- Night shift, 3x12 hours,
- 36 or 48 hour contracts accepted, 13-26 week assignments
- Every other weekend required
- No call required
- Floating required to other MS units and to the main campus approximately 32 minutes away
- Uses Pyxis, EPIC, and SBAR communication systems
- Active RN license (NC or Compact) required
- BLS and NIHSS certifications required
- 2 years of relevant RN experience required
- Must pass EKG testing prior to start
- Charge experience preferred
- Skilled in interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, telemetry monitoring, and rapid response/code team protocols
- Experience with wound care/wound vac, central and peripheral line care, PICC line management, phlebotomy, and IV starts/maintenance
- Experience managing chest tubes, BiPAP/CPAP, high flow nasal cannula, and non-invasive airway management
- Experience with blood product administration, insulin, heparin, and PCA pumps
- Experience with bowel obstruction care, colostomy/ileostomy management, and feeding tube care
- Experience with pre/post hemodialysis management and renal failure care
- Two professional references from a supervisor within the past 2 years required (pending acceptable at submission)
- State Board of Nursing License Verification and NURSYS Verification required within 30 days of submission
- Provide direct patient care including monitoring, medication administration, and coordination with the care team for a medically complex patient population
- 24 hours of unit orientation provided
- Navy blue or white scrubs required
- Must be able to work holidays, including 2 of the 3 major holidays
- Maximum 7 days RTO per contract, with no RTO allowed during the first week due to orientation
- No blocked scheduling requests accepted except for weekend blocks (Fri-Mon)
- May be assigned to a Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team and required to report during catastrophic events or disasters
- First time travelers accepted
- Travel pairs allowed with independent transportation and differing schedules
- Local candidates accepted at a local rate within 50 miles of the facility
- Previous PERM/PRN/EP employees of this health system must wait 12 months before applying as a traveler
