Overview
Position:
Senior Level Diesel Technician (Permanent Full Time) to support our Truck Fleet at Ryder in Wilmington, North Carolina.

Responsibilities- Perform vehicle maintenance and repair duties on heavy- and medium-duty diesel vehicles.
- Conduct standard maintenance and preventive maintenance; diagnose and repair complex mechanical and electrical issues using diagnostic tools.
- Complete thorough mechanical inspections and repairs with minimal supervision.
- Replace defective components as instructed and work unsupervised on most tasks.
- Provide facility maintenance support as needed and interact with customers/drivers to determine the nature of the issue.
- Utilize shop management systems and electronic documentation; comply with safety, DOT, MOT and other regulatory guidelines.
- Mentor Tech 1 and Tech 2 levels and access internal/external maintenance documents.
- Support additional duties to assist operations (e.g., Service Island support).
- Achieve SBTIII training within 180 days and complete OEM online diagnostic software courses as required by location.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred; vocational/technical certification preferred.
- Basic tools required; demonstrated aptitude in mechanical repair of automotive gas or diesel engines; routine preventive maintenance including oil changes, brake and tire work; basic diagnostics and repairs (AC and electrical systems).
- Three or more years of relevant work experience preferred; CDL Class A preferred; all location-required certifications as applicable.
- Additional requirements include: must have at least 2 years of experience with mechanical repairs and diagnostics on heavy- and medium-duty equipment; knowledge of computer skills (PC, Windows).
- Position requires the ability to drive Ryder vehicles, obtain CDL within 6 months after hire, pass Ryder drug test, DOT physical, Ryder road test, and background/motor vehicle checks for the last 3 years.
- Hourly pay: $32.00 per hour; quarterly bonus up to $500; sign-on bonuses of $1,750 at 30 days and $1,750 at 90 days; certification bonus up to $700.
- Schedule:
Monday–Friday; weekends off; second shift 2:00 pm – 10:30 pm. - Annual merit pay increases; on-the-job paid training; medical/dental/vision and 401(k) with company match; 12 weeks of paid maternity leave for qualifying employees; PTO starts accruing at day one (80 hours/year); additional time off for U.S. military veterans; employee discounts; PPE, uniforms and boot allowance provided.
